De La Cruz's seventh-inning single plated the team's first run and was the Reds' only hit with runners in scoring position. It was his third multi-hit game in the last five contests. In typical De La Cruz fashion, he's filled up the box score during that stretch, going 9-for-21 with a home run, six RBI, two steals and seven runs scored.

Friedl went 0-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Pirates.
Friedl stole a base in the first inning, snapping a streak of 33 games without a theft. It was just the seventh steal of the season for the outfieler, who swiped 27 in 2023. The reduction in steals is partially due to missing many games to injury, but it mostly is the result of no longer batting leadoff. Since returning from one of his injuries in late July, Friedl has primarily batted fourth and attempted just two steals in the 29 games since.

Diaz blew the save Sunday against Pittsburgh, allowing two runs on one hit and a hit-by-pitch over one-third of an inning.
The Reds took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth, but Diaz couldn't get the job done. After getting Rowdy Tellez to ground out to start the frame, Diaz hit Bryan De La Cruz with a pitch then surrendered a walk-off two-run home run to Yasmani Grandal. The 27-year-old closer is now 24-for-27 in save opportunities this season and the outing pushed his ERA from 4.00 to 4.37.

Martinez didn't factor into the decision Sunday against Pittsburgh allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and no walks with a strikeout over three innings.
Martinez didn't come out for the fourth inning as he handed the ball off to Carson Spiers - who threw four innings of relief - after just 54 pitches. Sunday's outing was Martinez's fifth straight start, and it's unclear why his appearance was cut short. During that five-start stretch, Martinez posted a 3.55 ERA with a 20:3 K:BB. If he pitches on regular rest, Martinez would likely match up against the Brewers next weekend. However, after tossing merely three innings, he could be available to pitch earlier if he's needed.

Reds' Casey Kelly: Finishes off Saturday's win

Kelly was credited with a save in Saturday's 10-2 win over the Pirates after striking out two batters over three perfect innings of relief.
Called up from Triple-A Louisville earlier Saturday, Kelly was summoned from the bullpen after starter Julian Aguiar covered six innings before departing with an eight-run lead. In what was his first MLB appearance since 2018, Kelly made quick work of the Pirates, needing 38 pitches to record his nine outs. Though he was deployed out of the bullpen Saturday, Kelly had been stretched out as a starter at Louisville, and he could be in line to get a look in the Cincinnati rotation with Hunter Greene (elbow) and Andrew Abbott (shoulder) both recently landing on the injured list. The Reds currently have four healthy starters, but with a stretch of six games in five days coming up this week, the team will require two additional starters.

Reds' Hunter Greene: Good injury news confirmed

Reds manager David Bell said Saturday that Greene is confirmed to be dealing with inflammation in his right elbow after an MRI revealed no UCL damage, MLB.com reports.
The Reds received good news on the injury a week ago, but the team and Greene sought more opinions. Three separate doctors have confirmed the diagnosis of inflammation. The right-hander will need at least two weeks for the swelling to subside before he begins a throwing program, so he likely won't be a candidate to return from the 15-day injured list until mid-September in a best-case scenario.

After spending the last six seasons in the Korea Baseball Organization with the LG Twins, Kelly signed a minor-league contract with Cincinnati on Aug. 8. Across his two starts with Louisville, he gave up four runs on eight hits and five walks while striking out two over eight innings. When Kelly takes the mound for the Reds, it'll mark the first time Kelly has pitched in MLB since 2018. Right-hander Alan Busenitz was designated for assignment by Cincinnati in a corresponding move.
